Valuation Services

An independent, professional inventory and valuation can provide many benefits for both private and corporate owners of works of art.  As well as forming the basis of full insurance cover, an up-to-date valuation can be used to help you negotiate the basis of cover with your insurance broker or company and may even result in a saving on insurance premiums (depending on the insurance company and the policy you have).  It will provide you with evidence of value in event of a claim and, of course, the peace of mind that you are aware of the value of your collection.  We are able to prepare valuations for various different purposes, including insurance, inheritance tax assessment (probate), tax planning, family division and sale by auction or by private treaty.

We would normally provide a digital image of each item valued together with a professional description. The only exceptions to this would be for printed books, manuscripts and large numbers of items valued together as group lots.

As well as a hard, bound copy, we often provide valuations electronically on a spreadsheet or simply as pdf files.

In addition to our inventory and valuation service, we are able to provide independent advice on various different aspects of the management of a collection of art and antiques including advice on the sale of items, the removal of items and general advice on conservation and restoration.
